The residential hotel La Vela is one of the most typical structures of the Island of Capraia. It is the result of the renovation of an old villa dated back to the early 800.
It used to be the seat of the Royal Prefecture and is protected by the Monuments and Fine Arts Office. It has just 10 apartments and two double-bed rooms.Each apartment, even if it has all the conforts and is average-level compared to other ones on the Island, has got its unique style, and this becouse nothing has been changed in its original structure.Its position is uphill in the downtown, right in front of the majestic San Giorgio Castle, looking on to the bay of the port. All this make it an ideal place for a holiday on the Island of Capraia. The shops are within a radium of 100 mt, as well as all the public utilities from the Post Office to the First Aid Station to the closest way to the beach. Even if it is situated in a quiet area, in summer time it is the core of the night life of the Island and that of restaurants and pubs. Each apartment of the residential hotel has some different aspect. They are typical for their space and wideness. They are about 35/45 square mts, with brand new and functional bathrooms; the cooking area is well furnished and has anything you might need in the kitchen. The furniture is in modern style; in winter time the apartments are heated by a power heating system. In summer time they are cool and fresh thanks to the fact that they are positioned in a natural windy spot of the Island and some of them have A/C.

The apartments also have colour TV , house phones and wifi connection.

The Residential Hotel has a reception open almost all day and 24hr on call, a fax service and secretariate, table games a well furnished library. Both when you get to the Island and when you leave it, there is a bus service from the Port to the residential hotel and back. Outside the Hotel there is a typical small terrace where the guests can enjoy the sun and there is a square with tables and beach-umbrellas.There is a list of facilities for the guests of the Hotel: the guest who wish to get the free card of the Island, can rent boats, go to excursions, restaurants and shops with discount price. You can go diving with the Capraia Diving Service, one of the ten top diving club of Italy, or you can go to excursions with Sottovento, the best excursions organiser of the Island.
